Let’s Talk Parasites
The Not-So-Big Elephant In The Room
Apparently, according to the internet, we are all completely full of worms.
We're not.
Parasites are absolutely real. Humans have been living alongside them for thousands of years, and our immune systems have evolved right along with them. People in the United States can and do acquire parasitic infections, and some of those infections need treatment.
But it is highly unlikely that the average healthy American is walking around with the massive hidden parasite burden portrayed in online parasite-cleanse videos.
Please be careful with this trend.
“Parasite Cleanses”
If you take something designed to cause significant intestinal irritation and diarrhea and then discover strange-looking things in the toilet, that does not necessarily mean you've just expelled a colony of parasites. The gastrointestinal tract contains mucus, food residue, fiber, and shed cellular material that can look surprisingly convincing.
And some of the “natural” parasite cleanses being sold online contain ingredients that can cause real harm.
If you have a reason to suspect parasites—persistent diarrhea, unexplained weight loss, anemia, concerning travel or water exposure, or other suggestive symptoms—come talk to us.
We can determine whether testing makes sense and, if you actually have a parasite that requires treatment, treat the organism you have rather than throwing a dozen herbs at something you may not have.
Your Immune System Is Pretty Amazing
Your immune system encounters bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and countless other foreign substances every single day.
Most of the time, you never even know it happened.
Rather than constantly trying to “boost” it, give your immune system the environment it needs to work the way it was designed to work.
Eat real food.
Prioritize protein.
Move your body.
Get outside.
Sleep.
Use supplements thoughtfully rather than indiscriminately.
And when something doesn't seem right, don't let TikTok diagnose you.
If you have questions about supplements, immune support, possible parasite exposure, or what we would recommend for you, schedule an appointment. That's what we're here for.
